Other Creatures: Whelan’s Ones To Watch Festival Spotlight.

Other Creatures

Other Creatures are my third artist spotlight of the Whelan’s Ones To Watch Festival. There is not a huge wealth of information about them online either considering their band bio’s are basically “Hello, We are a band named Other Creatures” and that’s about it. Luckily this doesn’t matter as the tracks available for you to listen to are nothing short of excellent. I’m not even sure how to classify them they produce something akin to haunting electro (without synths) alt rock leaning towards indie but not completely.
Catch them live at the Whelan’s Ones To Watch Festival Friday 23:15-23:45.

Take their track beet for instance its opening is a dark yet hopeful melody fit for a soundtrack instantly. Then the vocals come in from another room full of reverb with sharp harmonies and melancholy tones, sometimes turning to a murmur in the background as the melody takes over again and builds to a crescendo.

Soft and Sweet takes a different approach leading you in in a much softer fashion with its guitar line being more pure guitar than pedals, and the bass constantly pushing along at a slow pace. The vocals have again that effected distant sound. It could be called a love song but it’s not like many you’ve heard before.

I don’t know what to say about Ladyboy only that they manage to pull off the lyrics ” I want to lick you, I want to lick you, I want to lick you ladyboy” and that’s not easy.
