The Statics

The Statics are one of my favorite bands in Dublin and I’ve featured them on the blog several times. Every time I’ve seen them live they have gotten consistently more impressive, clearly they have been putting in the work behind closed doors as they build up to the release of their debut ep “Hidden Pigeon” this Saturday 20th April 2013 in The Thomas House, Dublin.

If you want the full low down on the band check out some of my previous reviews. In short The Statics play a brand of garage rock full of 50’s & 60’s sentiment in the melodies and harmonies. Think The Coral meets The Kinks with a hint of rockabilly punk thrown in for good measure.
Live they are guaranteed to have you dancing in seconds with their combination of stomping drums and upbeat melodies.

Hidden Pigeon is a step in the right direction for The Statics showing a leap in the maturity of their sound. The songwriting has become more intricate with the lyrics becoming more personal and honest adding depth to the already tight and sharp music driving everything. The songs have plenty of moments to drive them live with big break downs and build-ups creating plenty of dynamics for the lead vocal harmonies which are such a huge part of The Statics sound.
